Preamble:
BPDB is having a new 150 MW ± 10% power plant at Saidpur, Nilphamari which is
currently under construction. The power plant will be operating one Simple Cycle (SC) gas turbine fueled by High Speed Diesel (HSD) for power generation. Saidpur airport is within about 5 km from the power plant site and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has given a clearance for the combined Chimney and Plume height up to 255 ft (78m). A financial organization funding the project has raised the issue whether the current design of 50 m Chimney height will satisfy the CAAB clearance requirement. Under this situation, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) requested to have technical consultation and expert opinion from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in this regard. The study of has the objective of estimating the -
  (i) Effective plume height at normal and worst conditions.
(ii) Plume/Exhaust flue gas temperature and velocity at the height of 255 ft, 500 ft, 750 ft and 1000 ft.
